free ride- selected offer
I was waiting for our campus bus to arrive. As I saw the tiny bit of the white bus from miles away and was getting prepared to close my poppy umbrella, a voice from behind asked, "IIT?" Thinking that he was asking for the direction to the campus, I pointed my finger in the direction on my left. It was then that he quickly introduced himself as a staff in our campus and asked me whether I would like a ride on his bike. I denied his offer not because I sensed anything strange, but my bus was almost there and I preferred a bus ride to a motorcycle ride on a sunny and super dusty morning. The man went on to introduce himself again (as if trying to convince me) and offered to drop me at the campus. By the time this conversation was happening, I was also joined by another student from the campus, who had come to board the bus. I was surprised to see the staff not bothering to ask the fellow student whether he would like a lift. He quickly turned away from us with a look of frustration on his face.
I do not know what his intentions were. But why couldn't he have taken my denial with the attitude with which he struck the conversation? Where did all his gracefulness and good heartedness go? Moreover why was he hesitant to offer a ride to the boy who stood next to me?
